Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why don’t you post your rates on the website?

Once we meet to review your project I will give you an estimated cost. You will have a pretty good idea of the total cost before we begin working. Much of my work is on older homes and they sometimes have hidden damage that must be repaired before the desired project can be completed. If that happens we can discuss the additional work needed to complete the project.

  • My favorite Big Box Home Improvement Store says they can install new windows or doors for only $$ This Much $$. Can you do it for the same price?

The short answer is no, because Big Box gives you their price to do a “basic replacement,” or “starting at….” for whatever you need done. They may not tell you that their sub-contractor will charge you more if additional work is necessary. And they may not do that work at all, leaving it to you to hire someone else to do that part of the job.  If I take on a window or door replacement project, then I do the complete job and my estimate will reflect that.

  • Why do you do such a wide range of home improvement work?

Because remodeling involves a wide range of tasks, and because my working background before Mike’s Home Services included a similar range of skills. I am constantly working to expand my knowledge base and to keep up with new developments in materials and processes. And to be honest, because I like variety in my work.

  • How long will it take you to begin the work once we discuss the job to be done?

The workload in remodeling is seasonal so I’m likely to be busier at certain times of the year. I will give you an estimated start date and ask for a deposit to schedule the work.

  • How long will it take you to do the work?

Quality workmanship is important, but that being said, I will do the job as fast as I can while still maintaining high standards for my work. work
